Transitional Housing

Rainbow Passage is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ individuals escape dangerous living situations caused by discriminatory state policies and unsafe living situations. Our mission is to create a future where every queer individual can thrive in safety and happiness. We focus on four fundamental areas:

Safe Transport

We assist individuals facing legislative and domestic dangers by transporting them to secure environments where they can be safe from harm.

Community Support

We are committed to fostering a supportive community for all LGBTQ+ individuals. Through various initiatives, collaborations, and projects we aim to provide a sense of belonging and support for those who may feel isolated or marginalized.

Transitional Housing

Our innovative transitional housing program provides a critical bridge, offering temporary housing and supportive services to help individuals find stability, build a sense of belonging, and thrive.

Rainbow Gardens - Mental health and Wellness Center

Coming Soon

A center dedicated to recovery from hate-related trauma and to building the life skills needed to overcome any obstacle they may face through recovery and beyond.

Our vision is to create a more inclusive and supportive society where all LGBTQ+ individuals can live freely and authentically without fear of discrimination or violence.

A Safe Place to Land

We offer a unique model of care, partnering with dedicated volunteer hosts to provide room and board for LGBTQ+ clients in a welcoming and affirming environment. This approach fosters a sense of community and allows individuals to build connections within their new hometown. The program is currently free for clients and typically lasts for 6 to 12 months, with eligibility based on financial need and identification as a transgender or queer individual.

Supportive Services for a Brighter Future

Our dedicated casework team works closely with each resident to develop a personalized plan for success. We connect clients with essential services, including:

  • Job training and employment assistance

  • Educational opportunities
  • Mental health counseling and addiction recovery support
  • Community resource referrals
  • Guidance in finding permanent housing solutions

Success Stories

Rainbow Passage is proud to empower LGBTQ+ individuals to achieve self-sufficiency and build fulfilling lives. Here are just a few examples:

A client from Florida struggling with addiction found a safe haven in Washington state through our program. We connected her with a local recovery program, and she is now employed with the state Department of Transportation, financially secure, and living authentically.

A client from Georgia who is blind came to us with the hope of finding disability benefits and eventually securing stable housing. We helped him land a rewarding career at Goodwill, where he thrives and earns a competitive salary. These are just two examples of the transformative impact our program can have.

Investing in the Future

Your generous donation will directly impact the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals seeking a safe and empowering path forward. Currently, we rely on volunteer hosts to provide room and board.  To expand our reach and provide a more consistent experience for clients, we are seeking funding to transition to a model where we directly lease or rent properties, offering clients a space of their own with the same level of  support services. This will require us to provide essential living necessities for residents.

Your Contribution Matters

With your help, we can raise a few hundred thousand dollars to establish and sustain this innovative housing program. Your donation will help us provide:

  1. Secure and affordable housing for LGBTQ+ individuals
  2. Essential living necessities for residents transitioning to independent living
  3. Continued support services to empower individuals towards self-sufficiency
  4. By investing in Rainbow Passage, you are investing in a brighter future for LGBTQ+ individuals seeking a safe and welcoming place to call home.
  5. Together, we can create a world where everyone has the opportunity to live with dignity, hope, and the freedom to be themselves.
